A friend of mine is crazy looking for a song for a long time without success.

He remembers seeing a video probably on mtv, the video was black and white, and he saw a train approaching, and a face in the sky.

He doesn't quite remember when, but he thinks it was the late 80s.

The song is instrumental, probably country music.

Sounds similar to Night Train (Johnny Cash) and Riders in the Sky (The shadow instrumental version), but he says that they are not.
